Therapy is a place where you can receive support and explore areas of your life that are causing pain and disruption. As people, we all have times when life can be overwhelming. This may be due to a past or recent trauma, a sudden life change, or stem from ongoing relational pain. Just as our physical bodies need attention and specific care when trying to heal and function at their best, our emotional needs and pains need focused care and time as well.
In therapy you and I will explore how you are currently experiencing your pain. Because current pain is often tied to past pain, we will listen to your life stories and wonder about how the events and relationships that have impacted you the deepest shape your daily life. Doing this will allow us to engage in developing new ways of thinking and being with your current experiences that opens up space for a deeper connection to healing and care.
Your first appointment
Whether you have been in therapy before or this is your first time, the first appointment can often bring anxiety. No matter how deeply you may want help, opening up painful places in your life to a stranger is not easy. Sometimes it helps to know a little more about what to expect.
I offer a free 30 minute video consult. A consult allows time for me to hear what is bringing you to therapy. and for us to discuss what it would be like to work together. This is a great time to ask me any questions about how I work, and explore what you are hoping to get out of therapy.
A key part of what makes therapy successful is having a good fit between the therapist and client. Therapy is deeply personal work so I encourage you to explore how it feels to sit with me in our first session and if it feels like a natural good fit. At the end of the consult we will take a few minutes to explore this together.
